SA Home Inspection Training Academy
HouseCheck endorses and was the driving force behind the establishment of the South African Home Inspection Training Academy (SAHITA). The comprehensive training material offered by SAHITA has also been endorsed by the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI).
SAHITA is the first home inspection academy to equip South Africans with an all-round knowledge of local home building methods & regulations together with practical knowledge on how to conduct a home inspection and compile a report.
SAHITA was established to meet a need because the South African home inspection industry has been unregulated. HouseCheck, South Africa’s leading home inspection company therefore pioneered the launch of SAHITA, which now offers an excellent standard of training material. The SAHITA course covers the many different building disciplines that all certified home inspectors must understand.
The philosophy of SAHITA is to share knowledge for the greater good of the South African community and creates opportunities for students. After qualifying, some SAHITA students may be invited to join the HouseCheck team, others may choose to set up their own businesses as home inspectors, or to join another home inspection company.
John Graham, CEO of HouseCheck is the editor and compiler of the 35-module online SAHITA course. He is a member of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors; he has been enrolled by the NHBRC and he has hands-on home building experience; Graham has also owned and operated a number of property development companies; he has been trained by, and worked for two of South Africa’s leading home inspection companies; and he has previously qualified by examination as a professional estate agent.
Gerrie van Niekerk is the course moderator. He is a professional quantity surveyor and project manager who has vast practical experience in the South African construction industry. He is SAHITA certified and is an active House Check Home Inspector.
